The Dangers of Taking Field Sobriety Tests in Georgia

Field sobriety tests are a common part of a DUI arrest in Georgia. However, these tests are not without their dangers. In fact, many people who take field sobriety tests end up being arrested for DUI even though they were not intoxicated.

There are several reasons why field sobriety tests are dangerous. First, these tests are not always accurate. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found that field sobriety tests are only about 65% accurate. This means that there is a good chance that you could fail a field sobriety test even if you are not intoxicated.

Second, field sobriety tests are subjective. The officer who is administering the test will decide whether you have passed or failed. This means that there is a good chance that you could be arrested for DUI even if you do not believe that you were intoxicated.

Finally, field sobriety tests can be dangerous to your health. The NHTSA has found that people who take field sobriety tests are more likely to suffer injuries from falls or accidents. This is because these tests are often conducted in dangerous conditions, such as on the side of a busy road.

If you are arrested for DUI in Georgia, you should not take field sobriety tests. Instead, you should ask to speak to an attorney. An attorney can help you understand your rights and protect you from being unfairly convicted of DUI.

Here are some tips for refusing field sobriety tests in Georgia:

  • Be polite and respectful to the officer who is arresting you.
  • Do not admit to drinking or taking any drugs.
  • Tell the officer that you would like to speak to an attorney.
  • Do not take any field sobriety tests.
  • Do not sign any statements or consent to any searches.

If you are arrested for DUI in Georgia, it is important to speak to an attorney as soon as possible. Attorney Teal can help you understand your rights and protect you from being unfairly convicted of DUI.
